| A match at the Ham Yen District Expanded Vovinam Tournament 2025. |
Founded in 1938 by Nguyen Loc, Vovinam is not only a martial art focused on physical training but also emphasizes “Vo Dao,” promoting discipline, resilience, and national pride. In Tuyen Quang, the movement gained real momentum when coach Dang Xuan Duyet introduced and steadily developed the discipline at the grassroots level.
By integrating martial arts into schools and youth union activities, Vovinam clubs have expanded across both urban and remote areas. The discipline helps students improve fitness, flexibility, and coordination while fostering discipline, solidarity, and perseverance.
Alongside its growing popularity, a structured competition system, from grassroots tournaments to expanded annual events, has been established, providing athletes with regular opportunities to compete and gain experience. As a result, several young practitioners have achieved notable success at national competitions, contributing to the province’s school sports achievements.
According to Nguyen Tan Nghia, the movement’s steady development is driven by the dedication and professionalism of local coaches, as well as their strong commitment to grassroots engagement.
Looking ahead, Tuyen Quang plans to organize a larger-scale provincial Vovinam tournament aimed at further professionalizing the movement. With a solid foundation in place, Vovinam is becoming an effective platform for developing physical fitness, character, and sporting excellence among the province’s youth.
